Health Canada Approves Natural Health Product Containing EpiCor

Embria Health Sciences, Ankeny, IA, and Praxis Nutri-Pharma, Chateauguay, Quebec, Canada, have been formally approved by Health Canada for a new natural health product containing the immune health ingredient EpiCor. This accreditation, known as Natural Product Number (NPN), gives Canada’s natural health product manufacturers and marketers an opportunity to provide Canada’s consumers a safe and effective way to reduce the incidence of cold and flu symptoms. The approved claim for products containing 500 mg EpiCor is, “Helps reduce incidence of cold and flu symptoms.” The significance of this claim is that EpiCor’s research was reviewed using pharmaceutical guidelines and no disclaimers limiting benefits to certain populations are implied.
